Tyber Company - History
Pre-1996 - Seeds are planted
1970's - Began tinkering with computer hardware and writing simple games. Also experimented with first, pre-Internet online services and BBS's. This led to a life-long fascination with computers, networks and related technologies.
1980's - Wrote educational programs for high school math department. Competed against hundreds of students state-wide in newly formed TCEA team programming contest. Qualified for state finals, eventually finishing 3rd. Invited to participate in an experimental group of student programmers, creating new fractal algorithms which were displayed on some of the first color PC's.
1990's - Earned Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering while waiting tables and working as a depot technician. Earned A+ certification. Serviced Compaq, IBM, Acer, Packard Bell and other popular brands of the time. Began to see a need for a computer services company.
1996 to 1998 - Texas Troubleshooters
In September of 1996, Texas Troubleshooters was born. Our original website was a red, white and blue tribute to the Lone Star State, and featured a cowboy character riding to the rescue. We didn't even have a domain name, and relied on an AOL account for email. But it wasn't long before our 1-line telephone was ringing from sunrise to sunset... and often into the wee hours of the morning.
Orginally, we were strictly an "Onsite Service" company, doing repairs, upgrades and networks at our customers' homes and offices. Before long, customers started asking if we could recommend computers to purchase. We had a hard time really recommending anything, since the big brands were notorious for cutting corners and pre-loading tons of fat-ware. And the custom shops around town had no reliable standardization of parts. So we began specifying and building custom systems for our customers.
Before our second anniversary, we started looking for retail space, and started considering a name change. Texas Troubleshooters was just too long.
1999 to 2003 - Birth of Tyber PC
In January of 1999, we opened "Tyber PC", near Champion Forest in the Houston suburbs. The timing was great, with the looming "Y2K" situation, and the shop was an immediate success.
For the next four years, we expanded our Onsite and In-shop Service offerings, while also improving the quality standards of our computer products. It was during this time that we introduced the "ATXcalibur", custom desktop, based on the Intel motherboard and CPU platform. The ATXcalibur proved to be so reliable, and expandable, that 10 years later many customers were still using some of the originals. They were out of date, of course, but they still booted up and ran their old programs like they were original designed to do.
For many of our customers, nothing less than a Tyber ATXcalibur will do. It had become "The Weapon of Choice".
2004 to 2009 - New Tyber PC
We had some great times at the original shop, but then a cigar lounge opened next door and smoked us out. We attempted to seal our space, but it was hopeless. We moved about a mile down the street, ushering in the next era at Tyber Company.
The new shop build-out was done by Gradco Structures & Homes, and featured a custom, "flying wing" front counter. We also incorporated our 150 gallon aquarium on the wall between our tech room and manager's office. The big tank has been a popular item with Tyber technicians since 1999, and helps us wind down from the frustration of dealing with quirky computer problems every day.
As time went by, customers continued asking us to provide more products and services. They trusted us to recommend solutions, not just make sales. In response, we again worked to come up with standardized offerings that would be most reliable, repeatable and affordable.
During this time, we intruduced several new specialty services, including "Remote Service & Maintenance", and "Forensic (clean room) Data Recovery".
Our our custom PC line now included specialty items, such as Home Theater PCs, Tyfuun Gaming Systems and Multiview PCs featuring an array of between 2 and 9 monitors.
We also began selling select, brand-name desktops, notebooks and monitors... including Acer, HP and Lenovo.
2010 and Beyond - Expanding Products and Services
Since 1996, our approach has been to listen and learn from our customers. They tell us what they need. We do the research, design solutions, and then set standards. This lets us sell not only to the original customer, but to future customers as well.
As of 2010, Tyber Company already boasted a broad portfolio of capabilities. So we spent a large part of the year updating our internal systems to handle everything. Our 4th generation website is an example of that. It features a new Helpdesk, where customers can submit and track service requests online. The site also has new shopping features, such as "T-Recs" (short for Tyber Recommends), where we can recommend products that are not necessarily computer related, but where we may have direct, personal experience. Features currently in develpment include a Consignment Shop (for selling old computers), an eBay auction link, and even a new, updated version of our popular Portal (with weather, helpful videos and more).
But the most important feature of our website, was the restructuring of Tyber Company itself. This allows us to better highlight our diversity, while providing better products and services to each segment of our customer base. For example, in addition to our venerable Tyber PC brand, we have a dedicated section for TyberNet, our web/email/backup hosting solution.
Towards the end of 2010, we prepared to launch another brand, TyberTel. This low-cost telephone service is perfectly suited for home users, home offices, and small businesses, who need a "land line" phone, but only if it includes the latest features, at an affordable rate. As with our other products and services, we first listened to our customers about how they use their telephones, then we designed a system and established new standards.
Moving forward, you can expect even more unique and exciting offerings from Tyber Company, like our upcoming Tyber Control, automation products and services. Tyber Control products will automate lighting, heating/cooling, irrigation and just about anything that runs on electricity in your home or office.
We, at Tyber Company, would like to thank our loyal customers for 14+ years. We will continue to "satisfy your technology needs, and whims!"
